Teaching

I am currently a lecturer in the Department of Languages at Manchester Metropolitan University (departmental research info here) where I teach on various postgraduate and undergraduate and foundation year courses, including The Structure of English and Research Methods on the MA TESOL programme. Currently (semester 1 2011/12) I am back at the University of Manchester as a temporary lecturer for the English Dialects course. Previously, I taught on various undergraduate Linguistics and English Language courses here. Most recently I was course convenor for The Sounds of English, an introduction to phonetics and phonology. In past years I taught on English Dialects, Investigating English GrammarIntroducing English GrammarIntroduction to Semantics and I was course convener for Study Skills.

I was also involved with the MA TESOL and MA Educational Technology and TESOL courses in the School of Education, having taught on the Approaches, Methods and Techniques and Multimedia in Language Education course units since 2006. I also provided sessions on L2 phonological acquisition for the Explorations in Language course unit.

From October 2003 – August 2007 I worked in the University Language Centre as a Teaching Fellow / Senior Language Tutor. Here I taught on a variety of EFL/EAP/TEFL courses, as well as setting up and convening the Introduction to TESOL course.

Prior to coming to Manchester I worked as an EFL teacher and teacher trainer in various locations in the UK and overseas. I have a BA Hons in English and American Studies from The University of Central Lancashire (1995) and a Masters in Applied Linguistics from the University of Manchester (2003). I also have a Trinity Certificate and Trinity Diploma in TESOL.
